CASD Rep Jeff Simms presented twice at the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) Annual Conference on Friday, Oct. 7, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Jeff's first presentation focused on his experience implementing a new Academic Advisor Training Program for new Academic Advisors. The program Jeff developed more closely reflects the shift to guided pathways as well as our renewed focus on student success. His presentation was a reflection on the research, training competencies, supporting framework, and final product of the Advising training program that he developed.
Jeff's second presentation focused on surviving the grueling work of being a counseling advisor. Topics discussed included compassion fatigue, burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and professional quality of life in an advisement context, as well as employing methods for self-care and finding work-life balance.
Congratulations, and thank you Jeff for representing MCC and our Student Success services so well!
